Common Roofing Problems & Their Causes
Roofing issues are often a design or installation problem rather than a material one — even good sheets fail if the slope, fixing or flashing is wrong.
Common causes
- Roof slope below the minimum required for the roofing material used
- Incorrect fixing spacing allowing sheets to lift in wind
- Poor flashing detail at valleys, ridges and roof-to-wall junctions
- Undersized or blocked gutters causing overflow into the building
- Timber trusses not treated or sized correctly for the span
